There are some great reasons to be proud of being pasty and refusing to tan. I know, I said it… I refuse to tan. Though I do admit to trying out some self tanning lotion a few years ago at this point in my life I won’t even go for any self tanning methods and there are reasons for that on a health stand point.

Between every 35-45 days our entire epidermis renews itself which is why tans fade in the first place. If I were to use a self tanning lotion I would have to reapply constantly to keep some semblance of a glow and really with the prices that are attached to some self tanning products the money would be put to better use by try to cover gas costs.

Sunless tanning products use an ingredient called dihydroxyacetone which is basically a sugar that changes the color of dead skin cells making appear that you have a tan. Also, just because your dead skin cells are darker does not mean that you are protected you still have to use an SPF lotion.
